Sponge iron, also known as direct reduced iron, is fabricated from the unswerving reduction of iron ore into by elemental carbon or a reducing gas delivered from coal or natural gas respectively.

Sponge iron is utilised in the steel and iron industry as a substitute for scrap in electrical and induction arc furnaces. Over decades, the scarcity of expensive melting scrap has made sponge iron an essential raw material for the production of premium quality of steel.

Optima Resource India Pvt Ltd ventured into trading sponge iron in the late nineties and over decades, has achieved the prowess to procure and curate the best of sponge iron to emerge as one of the best middle man entities in trading and supplying the raw material.

Sponge Iron may be supplied in Lumps or as Fines – either bagged or in loose, as it may be needed by the consumer.

As per BIS, the standards available – 15774, 2007.

It is desirable that Sponge Iron is kept under cover to sidestep any possible direct contact with moisture before utilization. Moisture augments oxidation, thus reducing metallization.

Sponge Iron requires special care for storage and transportation for which IS:10852 requisites may be trailed by us.

A billet has a round or square cross-section of up to 155mm x 155mm. Optima Resource India Pvt Ltd’s procurement standards are influential in grading, classifying, defining the material, mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical specification of the different grades of billets.

We carefully examine and select steel billets of exceptional casting as the quality of the steel product is directly proportional to the flexibility and strength of the billet used. We ensure unconditional rejection of billets that have developed cracks and spaces during the cooling and heating procedures, some defects that make the products insignificant, per se.

Sponge iron fabrication is a procedure wherein iron ore lumps (usually 5mm to 18mm size) are combined with a ‘select’ grade of iron-coking coal little dolomite within an inclined rotary kiln and regulator combusted in the presence of air for approximately 12 hours prior to the products being air cooled, magnetically separated, divided, and distinguished size wise in the completed product before dispatch.

With over 27 years of experience in the industry, Mr. Farhan comes with great expertise and an influential network in dealership, distribution, and marketing. Mr. Farhan began his career in 1997 with PepsiCo in Marketing & Distribution for the Entire North Karnataka and Goa region. From here, after handling the entire distribution for North Karnataka in Zee Telefilms, Mr. Farhan entered into the iron ore industry in trading, transportation & over raising contracts. In 2015, he began participating in the business of sponge iron trading.

Mr. Farhan has also handled gold mining projects in Ghana for half a decade & at present have contracts with Vedanta for crushing & screening of iron ore in Liberia, west Africa.

His excellent business development skills & a solid experience in driving national and international projects – coupled with a highly driven attitude – has allowed Optima Resource Private Ltd to grow into what it is in the market today.

After the completion of his graduation, Mr. Reddy joined Sundar Steel Ltd Hyderabad (First Sponge Iron plant in India) and gained massive experience during his tenure there for 5 years. After gaining experience in the fabrication and operation of sponge iron, he joined Surya Sponge Iron as a consultant. Mr. Venku actively participated in the commissioning and the establishment of the Sponge Iron Plant. Post this, Mr. Reddy worked with Popuri Engineering and Consultancy Services for 4 years in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. He was responsible for the commissioning and establishment of over a 100 units of 50 TPD to 350 TPD. In 2005, he entered in a business partnership for a 50 TPD Sponge Iron Plant in Andhra Pradesh. In merely 3 years, owing to his spellbound leadership, it developed into a 200 TPD Plant. Post that, in 2007, he began institutionalising his own consultancy in the name of AVR Engineering & Consultancy Services. Today we have him on-board as our Technical Director to leverage his fastidious intelligence that was gained through years of industry experience.

Mr. Srinivas Murthy is an engineer armed with a MBA degree and entered the Logistics industry at a time when the importance and criticality of the industry was less known and understood. His knowledge was further enhanced by the Management Courses that he attended at XLRI —Jamshedpur and IIM-A.
He has been fortunate enough to be a part of companies and projects that have increased his experience and knowledge exponentially in the area of Sales, Operations, Key accounts Management, Product Development for logistics and FMCG industries. Some of the organizations with which he had mutually beneficial relationship are Reliance Industries, Mineral Enterprises Ltd, Gati Ltd, India Markets and Heritage Foods Ltd etc.

Over 25 years of hardcore experience at Senior and Middle level positions in Key Accounts Management and Business Development have given him hands on experience to set up ventures from scratch and convert them into a profit-making set-up.

He is a consultant to Vedanta Ltd — iron ore division for its Rail Logistics at MMEC Siding which has handled over 30 million Tons since inception in 2011. He is also in consulting positions to a few other companies in Retailing and Warehousing solutions.
